Philosophy, its a hobby
You know I have absolutely no use for philosophy as a profession. I refer to philosophers who teach and defend those teachings with a near blood lust.
Philosophy is a hobby and nothing more. Why do I say this? Because philosophy exists only in the mind. Yes, I’m aware some philosophy has application, applied philosophy has a name it is art, history, anthropology, math, engineering, medicine, politics etc etc. Idea applied is useful to the human community, idea for the sake of idea is not. Any idea not tested in reality or attempted in the physical world is utterly useless to anyone but the one who thinks. Simply spouting that idea should not garner a wage.
So now we get into the next defense of philosophy: it teaches persons how to think. Prove to me persons can’t learn to think any other way and I will agree. I have an advantage here in fact, the fact that humanity developed without philosophy from homo erectus to about 3000 years ago. Beat that and I may agree that paying for philosophy itself is not a waste of money.
