Principles

I believe in principles. I believe in unwavering adherence to principles. I believe that to be considered a true man or woman principles have to have a place in the foundation of character.

As the title indicates: random thoughts right.

I’ve noticed lately that many of my peers don’t seem to have the courage to stand up for their principles, their beliefs. I can question someone on something and at most they repeat it a second time. If its something I disagree with I will challenge them and invariably my opponent will back down. Is my questioning so repulsive? Or do persons have an aversion to standing on their principles? Of defending something they hold dear and important for fear of how they will look?

Perhaps they do not hold that something dear.

Doubtless the worst characters are those that spout one ideology but live another. Rather fail by honour than succeed by fraud Sophocles said, I agree with him. Am I the only one? Is it really that difficult to turn down a well paying job because it would violate one’s morals? Can it be that everyone is more interested in the material side of life? How can sex drive persons do violate almost everything they claim to hold dear?

The character of persons I encounter… well there isn’t much character. They are as changeable as the wind, as yielding as a feather and as pitiable as any outcast. When is the last time you’ve met someone with a memorable character? I’ve only found a vast sea of forgettable faces and dismal ideas devoid of any courage and integrity.

One of two things can be happening, either persons are lying about their principles and enjoy acting counter to what they claim. Or persons are principled, and lie about enjoying acting counter to those principles. In both cases though there are lies involved. Why?

What do these individuals have to retire to at the end of the day? Beyond everything one always has to contend with the conscience, that voice inside. Have most persons merely silenced it? Have they confused it so that it can no longer direct them? Is logic so weak in persons that they find no need to justify action or inaction at all?

Weird.
