Connecting the dots
There’s a quality in persons that I’ve got a very hard time dealing with and comprehending. I would say it’s a negative quality to boot. So many persons I know have difficulty connecting their thoughts to their actions. Not that I know one of these but the classic example is the smoker who admits to the harm he’s causing himself, agrees that it’s bad, sees that action needs to be taken yet doesn’t act.
I know there are struggles of addiction and habit and personal psychologies involved. That’s not enough of an answer to me though. I’m a demanding person (if you couldn’t tell) and it irks me that persons do these kinds of things. I’m mostly considering environmental issues at the moment. Many agree that the environment demands immediate action yet what do so many of us do? Obscene use of plastic bags continues, we ignore the composters, and continue to drive to the corner store. There are always reasons of course, it’s cold out or “I forgot…” etc etc. Yet in the meantime our planet is going to hell in a handbasket.
The fact that we want to hide our heads in the sand doesn’t mean the world stops turning. Connecting the dots as it were, is crucial and we have to do it not tomorrow or later but NOW! Procrastination can only get us so far before it all comes down about our ears. Oh the fingerpointing that’ll ensue.
Why do so many persons struggle with this?

I’m not just referring to climate change, but pollution, loss of biodiversity, sustainability in general.
