For your security

The word security has become so ubiquitous today that the meaning to me has changed from what it was 10 years ago. When I was a teenager the word security implied people or a profession. There was security at a ball game, there were security personel at the court house now I’ve found that the word is almost always tied to the nation and to terrorism in some way. Recently I’ve been to Norway and the airports all have that lovely word security plastered all over the place but it’s vague and somewhat meaningless.

I know that the world has changed much over the last half decade and inevitably things change. The word terrorist as well for instance used to be merely a bad person of any ethnicity that had a personal goal but today I think that is drastically different.

I wonder where and how far such change can go. Will anyone stop it? As my friend said all of this security “is becoming more trouble that it’s worth.” I don’t think it’s a far cry to imagine that persons will stop flying, will stop doing many of the things they used to do because everything will require a strip search.

I guess time will tell. I’m not a big fan of George W. Bush (actually I think he’s a fool), so I’m awaiting the results of the US election as I’m certain it will have a great impact on world events. The only certainty we have is that Bush will be out which I think will be a good thing.
